View on X ↗New polling by @BritainUnbound - a newly formed organisation whose advisory board I am proud to serve on alongside others from across British politics - shows that across every region, income bracket and education level, voters do NOT want Britain taking rules from Brussels again in exchange for closer Single Market ties. Our laws must be accountable to the British electorate, in their 800 year-old Parliament, not dictated by an international bureaucracy in Brussels through so-called dynamic alignment. The Government must respect the independence the British people voted for.

Today is the twenty fifth anniversary of the 2001 General Election when Romford became the first "GAIN" from Tony Blair's new Labour with the largest swing in the United Kingdom, electing me as Member of Parliament for Romford. Margaret Thatcher's visit to campaign for me two days before is included here in this historic footage from that famous victory, now a quarter of a century ago! 🇬🇧🏴

Twenty-five years ago this day, on Thursday the 7th June 2001, the people of Romford gave me the great honour of electing me as their Member of Parliament in the General Election. Since then, it has been the greatest privilege of my life to serve the people of my hometown of Romford in the Parliament of the United Kingdom, now for a quarter of a century. I am grateful to all the people I have known over the years who have voted for me and given me their trust over seven General Elections. As Romford’s longest serving M.P. since the constituency was created in 1885 and as a truly local boy, having lived in Romford all my life, for me Romford will always come first. As long as the people of this proud Essex constituency chose me to be their M.P. in the House of Commons, I will go on doing so with honour, dedication and love. Thank you Romford. 🇬🇧🏴
I wouldn’t recommend playing this game @CCHQPress 👇
Great to have @RobertJenrick in Romford today backing the campaign against tool theft. Hardworking tradesmen are being let down by a system that too often puts criminals ahead of victims. It’s time we restore law and order.
The people of Romford and Havering made their views known loud and clear at the local elections after decades of feeling ignored by the Labour and Conservative political establishment. Yesterday, I asked the Prime Minister a simple question whether he will listen to them now and provide the new A&E Unit at Queen’s Hospital in Romford that the last Health Secretary @wesstreeting failed to deliver. All Sir Keir Stamer resorted to was talk of the by-election taking place over 150 miles away from Romford! We need change!
This is the product of over a decade’s worth of left-wing ideological dogma being allowed to infect our public institutions. An engrained belief that so-called white privilege is an incurable illness that needs to be continually treated and that an accusation of racism should be viewed upon almost with greater seriousness than sexual crime (as we have seen with the rape gangs) and now, as evidenced by this video, genuine acts of violence. Like many people across our country, I have always believed that, whatever our disagreements about politics and the true extent to which the ideological rot has seeped into our institutions, the police would ultimately be there to protect the innocent and put right a wrong. The events surrounding this case have shaken that confidence and raised serious questions about how our institutions are functioning. It is equally disturbing that the Prime Minister chose only now, seven months after the event, to address the matter publicly when as Leader of the Opposition he bent the knee within a fortnight to George Floyd who died across the Atlantic. I believe I speak for the majority of the British people when I say that we want a high-trust society restored, we want an end to two-tier justice, and we want our country back.

Tom Vickery as her Consort for the coming year. 🇬🇧
I am terribly sad to hear of the loss of Jeremy Hanley, who was always so kind and personally supportive of me when I served as Chairman of European Conservatives (EYC) and through the International Democrat Union (IDU) @idualliance and @IYDUofficial in the 1990s. A true gentleman and a friend. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/jeremy-hanley-death-tory-chairman-b2982457.html#
