View on X ↗The Health Service Journal recently reported a large spike in people being struck off the waiting lists. 350,000 people. That's the equivalent of a city the size of Coventry. Today, I asked the Minister why. Here's her response 👇 1/2
R to @drlukeevans: If the answer is that this is "standard practice", why the sudden spike? More on this here: https://app.hsj.co.uk/2026/05/14/elective-target-hit-after-spike-in-unreported-removals/content.html 2/2
The Health Minister says this is just a normal process on managing the waiting lists, but why the sudden, dramatic rise in patient removals from the waiting list? Doesn't this raise even the slightest curiosity as to why there is such a spike? Clearly, not for the minister.
R to @drlukeevans: The hub is currently fully funded for all primary and secondary schools, sixth forms and colleges. R to @drlukeevans: I heard about the Eating Disorder Hub for Education Professionals, which offers guidance and resources to teachers across the country. 2/3
Last week I caught up with Vanessa Longley, CEO of Beat Eating Disorders, to speak about what I can do in my role as Shadow Health Minister and what advice Beat can offer to people needing support. 1/3
Reports from last 48h said Govt would announce social media ban for under-16s. PM previously said “Things can’t go on like this… social media is putting our children at risk” Now seems Starmer won't announce until just before Makerfield: https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/keir-starmer-social-media-ban-3m95d7tfv I wonder why…
Recently met with Denise and Oliver from the College of Optometrists to discuss several issues, including a national glaucoma pathway. As Shadow Health Minister, I heard about how optometry can play a greater role in improving patient access to care and supporting the NHS. 1/2
R to @drlukeevans: It was timely as the Health Bill came to the House of Commons at the start of the week for Second Reading, so we also discussed what I can do to hold the Government to account and encourage better access to eye care services. 2/2
The World Cup starts this week and I need YOUR help! ⚽️ I want to draw attention to the amazing venues - many of which are small businesses run by local people - across Hinckley and Bosworth. Do share your local recommendations in the link below!! 🤝 https://www.drlukeevans.org.uk/news/hinckley-bosworth-world-cup-venues
Dodging the showers in #Burbage - but a great chance to chat to residents on the doorstep about their concerns and priorities! 🌦☔️🌧
A pleasure to speak at the East Midlands Elite expo at the Hinckley Island Hotel today. The EME is a group of senior professionals from agencies, suppliers, venues and hotels who are passionate about their business and the opportunities in our region. Well done to all involved!
R to @drlukeevans: During my visit, we toured the school and discussed the challenges around Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision, admission and general plans for the future. 2/2
Good to visit The Market Bosworth School this afternoon and catch up with the senior leadership team. TMBS is consistently recognised as one of the best secondary schools in Leicestershire, with facilities for pupils like the maths centre, astroturf and tennis courts. 1/2
R to @drlukeevans: For years, I've been raising concerns about the rising use of anabolic steroids and Image and Performance Enhancing Drugs (IPEDs), particularly among young people. These findings highlight the need for Government departments to work together and commission a study. 2/3
R to @drlukeevans: You can read more about the survey here: https://www.thetimes.com/article/uk-anti-doping-young-people-performance-enhancing-drugs-fn2wttw37, and here: https://www.ukad.org.uk/news/health-risks-and-misinformation-online-uk-anti-doping-survey-exposes-products-not-human 3/3
1 in 3 young people (16-25) young people in the UK have bought performance-enhancing drugs, according to a recent survey by UK Anti-Doping. Today I asked, once again, for a debate in Government time and will be following up with the relevant Minister. 1/3
R to @drlukeevans: Earlier this year, I spoke to Care Home Professional about my role as Shadow Minister for Primary Care and Social Care, pressures facing the sector and the potential impact of Local Government reorganisation. You can read the interview here: https://www.carehomeprofessional.com/big-interview-dr-luke-evans-mp-social-care/ 2/2
"I can’t decide whether [the National Insurance tax hike] was wilful ignorance or something more Machiavellian. But either way, the effect on the sector has been huge." You can watch my discussion with Care Home Professional here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEZwHR8kwBY 1/2
Hi @ZiaYusufUK me again. Hope I can help. Again. This is an expansion of the stage 2 trial to gain more evidence, not the screening programme itself 👇 https://www.imperial.nhs.uk/about-us/news/transform-study-extends-prostate-cancer-screening-to-black-men-in-the-uk Also, a letter from The Health department explaining what is going on. You are most welcome.
R to @ComPharmEngland: I asked the Minister whether he had raised their concerns with the Chancellor and urged him to press for a package of support similar to that made available to other sectors. You can watch my full speech here: https://www.drlukeevans.org.uk/news/responds-future-community-pharmacies-debate 3/3
Yesterday, as Shadow Health Minister, I responded to a debate on the future of community pharmacies. I reiterated concerns that policy changes, including the rise in employers' National Insurance and loss of business rates support, make it harder for pharmacies to survive. 1/3
R to @drlukeevans: Headline findings from @ComPharmEngland latest 'Pharmacy Pressures' survey show that 100% of pharmacies report that costs are higher than at this time last year, with 76% saying that patients are already being directly impacted by the pressures on their businesses. 2/3
Define "free".
Hi, the announcement is to expand the TRANSFORM trial to better understand prostate cancer for all men Could you ask Reform's health spokesperson (forgive me, I don't know who to ask, you might) Would they not expand the trial? I hope the link helps 👇 https://www.imperial.nhs.uk/about-us/news/transform-study-extends-prostate-cancer-screening-to-black-men-in-the-uk
Hi @ZiaYusufUK I might be able to help... Black men are genetically much more likely to get prostate cancer. Here is a big study showing why: https://www.icr.ac.uk/about-us/icr-news/detail/study-sheds-light-on-genetic-basis-of-black-men-s-higher-prostate-cancer-risk We also have different guidelines on things like blood pressure, because of well, genetics. You are welcome

Hi Rob, you missed a bit on your edit. Hope this helps. You are welcome.
We've all been horrified to hear of the murder and treatment of 18-year-old Henry Nowak. Today I asked the Home Secretary how she will restore public confidence. You can see my question and her response here 👇
